Description: HAMPSHIRE REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL DIRECTOR OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES
DESCRIPTION: The Director of Student Activities coordinates and leads all interscholastic athletic and extracurricular programs. The person in this position is a leader in the school who creates a culture of belonging, engagement, and support for all students and their families.
SUPERVISION: Works under the supervision and evaluated by the Principal.
JOB ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed within a secondary school environment. Meetings and games will take place on or off site and after “regular” school hours.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Extracurricular Activities Supports all class advisors and class officers with activities and planning events Organizes and facilitates extracurricular activities on a monthly or quarterly basis for all students to participate Meets with approved performing arts booster organizations as needed Develops a schedule of events for shared school spaces including the auditorium, gym, etc. Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the extracurricular program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds. Requisitions and orders materials, supplies and equipment for the extracurricular program Schedules all transportation for extracurricular clubs Shall determine initial extracurricular eligibility of all home schooled, school choice, special education and transfer students with recommendation(s) to the principal Assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of extracurricular activities and events
Athletics Assists the Principal with the interview of all athletic positions and recommends athletic personnel appointments Supervises all athletic program personnel Evaluates all coaches annually Meets frequently with the coaches, athletic trainer, support personnel and volunteers regarding the athletic program and their responsibilities related to the athletic program including but not limited to their mandated trainings and CPR/First Aid certification Meets with approved athletic booster organizations as needed Conducts preseason meeting for all coaches and assistant coaches Develops athletic contest schedules and maintains the schedule on the athletic scheduling platform Approves, schedules and coordinates all athletic practices including assignments to facilities Schedules and coordinates assignments and schedules for all athletic trainers, support personnel, volunteers, timekeepers, line judges, scorekeepers, etc. Develops, recommends, implements, monitors and evaluates the athletic budget; maintains records of all athletic expenditures Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic and extracurricular program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds. Submits requisitions and orders materials, supplies and equipment for the athletic and extracurricular program Acts as the liaison between school department, maintenance staff, and administration to ensure that all fields and gyms are properly maintained, reconditioned and prepared for practice and competitions Implements a formal inventory system and maintains an up-to-date inventory of equipment and supplies Oversees the reconditioning of uniforms/equipment and their proper storage Schedules all transportation for athletic teams or extracurricular clubs Keeps the students and their families current regarding eligibility requirements for participation of students in all interscholastic competition in accordance with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), the Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference (PVIAC), and Hampshire Regional High School requirements and sees that all coaches enforce the requirements Determines initial athletic and extracurricular eligibility of all home schooled, school choice, special education and transfer students with recommendation(s) to the principal Provides the athletic trainer and school nurse with list of student athletes before each season to ensure that all have current physicals on file and follows up with students and families who do not have physicals on file regarding their ineligibility. Conducts preseason meeting with student athletes and their parents/guardians. In collaboration with the athletic trainer, coaches, school nurse, and Health Director, leads, plans and supervises pre and post concussion training programs for all school athletes. Updates the Athletic Handbook on an annual basis as for approval Acts as the school district's official liaison to the MIAA and PVIAC Acts as the school district's liaison between the PVIAC sport commissioners to help coordinate game coverage by officials Shall be responsible for adhering to and implementing all federal, state, local, league, and school district statutes, policies and regulations, including all requirements found within the athletic handbook. Keeps the school district current regarding eligibility requirements for participation of students in all interscholastic competition in accordance with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), the Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference (PVIAC), and Hampshire Regional High School requirements and sees that all coaches enforce the requirements Keeps an updated record of all athletes suspended from games. Verifies each athlete's eligibility according to the requirements adopted by the Hampshire Regional School District and/or the MIAA, including academic eligibility, physical examinations and baseline and post-concussion testing. Shall inform or assign the responsibility to coaches and advisors for contacting the news media on all aspects of the athletic and extracurricular program including schedules, postponements, cancellations and contest results Oversees details of visiting teams' needs, including gymnasium services and field assistance, as appropriate. Manage all student activities account expenditures and revenues in compliance with regulatory requirements Develop a program for after school activities, supervision, and organization Update athletic page of the website on a regular basis Assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games and extracurricular activities and events Enforces appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
Other Develops a formalized process for outreach to families for consistent communication Approves and supports fundraising initiatives Communicates openly with students, coaches, and families to resolve conflict Assists in the communication of school core values, learning expectations, purpose, programs and opportunities Works closely with community partners Shares responsibility for organizing and supervising all major school events Develops and implements routines and celebrations that create a culture of success Facilitates family involvement and reinforce the need for academic supports at home including Open House and other workshops for families Works with Grants Manager to apply for applicable funding for extracurricular or athletic programming Collects and tracks data to monitor the number of students engaged in an extracurricular or athletic program Other duties as assigned by the Principal

Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: DESE Initial or Professional License as School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades 5-12, 5-8, or 9-12) preferred Degree in either physical education, recreation or sports management preferred Certification in American Red Cross Adult CPR and First Aid or the equivalent required Experience as a secondary school level coach mandatory Experience as either a secondary school level athletic director or assistant athletic director preferred Successfully completed required MIAA coach's education program Strong organizational and technology skills required Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the appointing authority may deem appropriate Driver’s License required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Good general health. Alert, physically assertive and mobile at all times. Lift, push, or pull 50 pounds as required; Mobility to regularly walk, stand, stoop, reach, bend and occasionally run.
